September 20, 2013--Soroptimist International of Vista hosted Development Coordinator Amanda Hambly of the Burn Institute as guest speaker at a September lunch meeting at Shadowridge Country Club.
The Burn Institute is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to reducing the number of burn injuries and deaths in San Diego and surrounding counties. Founded in 1972, one of the Institute’s first accomplishments was to help establish the UCSD Regional Burn Center.
Today the Institute works to educate both children and adults about fire and burn prevention, funds burn research and treatment, and conducts burn survivor support programs that help children and adults cope with the devastating psychological and physical effects of their injury. “The slideshow Amanda presented was riveting and we all were impressed and moved by the work this organization is doing,” said member Jackie Piro.
